Housekeeping

My original goal here was a monthly newsletter & blog post bringing you updates about what I’ve done in that month - photo shoots/projects, road trips/sends, and photos I’ve shot of course… but monthly this has been tough to carve out time for. There’s a lot I want to share in each of these blog posts, and I think in slower months, doing them monthly would be easier, but these past few months have been JAM-PACKED with projects, client work, and travel, and I just haven’t had a minute to breathe. That said… rather than commit to a monthly cadence, I’m going to share:

  • Shorter, more regular updates (e.g. new Youtube video’s out, travel recaps, etc.)

  • Occasional “AV’s Photo Corner” newsletter update like these (goal of every month, but really whenever I can)

  • Misc. fun stuff

That said, if you’re reading this, thanks for tuning in.

SUMMER COMMUNITY FAVORITES

Summer is both one of the best times to be outside taking photos… and one of the best times to scroll your feed. So many amazing moments shared. Let’s take a look at some I took inspiration from this summer. I’m going to start adding more shots from people I don’t see on the timeline as well via the hashtag: #AVsPhotoCorner

New Gear & Tools

I made a blog a while ago about the Fujifilm X-T3 - in that blog, I basically talked about how (at the time) I saw zero need for me to upgrade from the ~7 year old model to a newer one in the X-T line up. However, in the early months of the summer, I started to integrate hybrid photo & video into my day to day a LOT more than I had previously. Part of this is because I want to gather up b-roll to use for future videos, but another part of this is just a genuine interest in videography as a medium.

This said, I bought up the X-T5 this month from Faizal Westcott (thanks Faizal) for better hybrid capabilities so I can continue the hybrid shooting process.

what i’ve been up to this summer

In the last 3 months, I’ve gone on my first international trip, worked with a handful of clients on some fun projects, and shot 10s of thousands of raw images. As always, I’m hella behind on editing my work, but expect a bunch of new stuff in the months to come. Lots of street photography, landscape images throughout the Northeast, and much, much more.

I’m currently working on a video about the week I spent in Lisbon with Faizal and Matej, so that will hit my youtube channel soon. I’ve also got a video about Porto, Portugal, and Cascais inbound, but those will come later. If you’re interest in seeing my work from that whole trip, be sure to subscribe to my channel!

I’ve somewhat “formalized” a project I’ve been exploring for a while, one that focuses specifically on Lighthouses. Lighthouses where? I guess, the U.S., the Northeast? I have no boundaries or specific guides for it - for now, I’m just using this loose project as an excuse to explore my visual interest in the various shapes & sizes of lighthouses in the region. More on that in the future.

Now, as it’s October, with fall in full swing, I’ve got a couple exciting trips planned, and am hoping to get a lot of rich, foliage-full photos this season. Here’s a couple raws, undedited, from a recent weekend send up North (see above).

Will check in again soon!
